Give Canada the thumbs up on Facebook and support our athletes

Canada did a lot more than just like the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Canada loved those Games. Vancouver 2010 brought the country together as one for 17 of the most patriotic days in our history.

How about you? Did you like watching Canada break the record for gold medals at an Olympic Winter Games? Did you like watching Alex Bilodeau break free for Canada’s first gold medal on home soil? Was Joannie Rochette’s emotional long program worthy of the thumbs up? Did you rush to Facebook to spread the word of hockey gold?

How would you like to help Canada’s Olympic athletes “keep exploring” their potential?

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) have teamed up on a Facebook fan campaign to harness all that passion and support for our budding athletes as we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Vancouver 2010.

For every new Canadian fan of Canada at “Keep Exploring” on Facebook, one shiny loonie will go to the Canadian Olympic Team. The promotion runs until February 28, one year after the Closing Ceremony.

“Canadians wore their pride for their country like a badge of honour during the Games last year,” says Gloria Loree, CTC executive director, Global Communications. “This promotion aims to tap into that passion, boost our Olympians and share Canada’s great stories with our fans.”

“This is yet another great Olympic initiative by the CTC, and one that helps build financial support for our hard-working Olympians who seek to represent Canada at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and beyond,” said Dennis Kim, COC executive director, Brand Marketing. “As a nation we stand on the podium and it’s up to all of us to keep the passion felt in Vancouver going.”

Visit www.facebook.com/KeepExploring and like Canada, then spread the word! Post it on your wall, tweet it to your friends. It doesn’t cost anything, and the money raised goes to the Canadian Olympic Team!
