Celebrating 100 days from Games

With only 100 days to the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is in the home stretch of Olympic preparations.

“Our athletes are ready to compete. After all the hard work training, competing and preparing for this moment, they are raring to go,” said 2012 Canadian Olympic Team Chef de Mission Mark Tewksbury. “While there is still much hard work and preparation to be done, I know that Canada will be represented by the most competitive, hard-working team in London.”

“Canadian athletes are role models and they are going to inspire all of Canada with their performance in London,” said 2012 Canadian Olympic Team Assistant Chef de Mission Sylvie Bernier. “They are driven, determined and defiant. We have left no stone unturned to deliver the best environment possible for our Olympians.”

“After years of preparation, the last 100 days before the Games is like the last 100 meters of a marathon,” said COC President Marcel Aubut. “Every day, every moment, every decision will make a difference towards achieving our goal of finishing Top 12 in 2012. It will not be easy, but excellence never is. Our team working behind the team is dedicated to providing everything the athletes need to achieve their Olympic dreams.”

“We want to thank all the fans, our partners and all the people who help get us to this point,” said three-time Olympic medallist Karen Cockburn. “Your support means everything to us and we will try to make you proud,” said 2008 Olympic silver medallist Jason Burnett.

“We have worked so hard for so long and now we’re down to crunch time. We’re ready,” said 2011 Pan American Games gold medallist Rosie MacLennan.

Years of preparation came together this past weekend, as the Canadian Olympic Committee assembled almost 200 members of the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team’s support and mission team at the Team Orientation and Preparation Seminar (TOPS) for final planning before London. TOPS is the final event of the COC’s Olympic Excellence Series events, which includes the Olympic Preparation Workshops, Olympic Excellence Series and Media Summit. Over the past four years, athletes, coaches, support staff and Team leadership have met at these events to ensure that every member of the team supporting the Canadian Olympic Team is at the top of their game for London 2012.
