2012 Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame event generates more than $3M

TORONTO – The Canadian Olympic Committee is proud to announce that donations generated at the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony Friday, September 21, 2012 totalled more than $3 million dollars in proceeds to support the Canadian Olympic Team.

“It is a proud day for sport and for Canada,” said Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut about the $3,033,914 generously donated.

“This is an undeniable example of the passion Canadians have for the dedication our coaches, athletes and national sport federations display. It’s this kind of passion that fuels our Team with the financial backing it needs to achieve excellence every single day as we constantly plan for Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and beyond.”

The Canadian Olympic Committee worked closely with partners and relied on heavily on volunteer efforts to deliver Friday’s gala event at a cost that would reflect the most money possible for Olympic athletes and coaches.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the support our corporate partners continue to show and for the generosity of our donors,” said Aubut.

The 2012 Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony was presented by Gold Partners Bombardier, Maple Leaf Sports + Entertainment, RBC, Teck and Thomson Reuters.

Net proceeds from the event directly support the Canadian Olympic Team through the Canadian Olympic Foundation, which provides Canadians with the first opportunity to support the success of high performance athletes across all Olympic sports.
