Maple Leaf Moments: Looking for a Comeback

Looking for a comeback: One year from now, long track speed skater and two-time Olympian and team pursuit gold and silver medallist Denny Morrison will be aiming to win his first individual medal when he steps foot into the Adler Arena. The reigning world champion in the 1,500m was the World Cup leader in the 1,000m before a broken leg put him on the sideline. You can expect Morrison to do everything in his power to return stronger and faster than ever ahead of Sochi.

On this day: February 12, 1994 marked the Opening Ceremony of the XVII Olympic Winter Games held in Lillehammer. Four-time world champion figure skater Kurt Browning was given the honour of being Canada’s flagbearer, but it was Myriam Bedard who produced highlight performances by winning gold in the women’s 7.5km and 15km individual Biathlon events.  Bedard remains the only Canadian biathlete to stand on an Olympic podium, a statistic that Jean-Philippe Le Guellec is hopeful of changing at Sochi 2014.
