Leading ladies: On the 13th day of competition at Vancouver 2010, Canada won its third straight Olympic gold medal in women’s hockey.  On this day at Sochi 2014 another gold medal showdown with the rival United States is anticipated.

On this day:  The “Battle of the Brians”, one of the most anticipated events in Olympic Winter Games history, concludes in Calgary on February 20, 1988. American Brian Boitano beats Canada’s Brian Orser (Belleville, ON), giving Orser a second consecutive Olympic silver medal to go along with the one he obtained at Sarajevo 1984.
