Athletes of the Week: Roseline Filion & Meaghan Benfeito

Divers Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion reached a career high at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, winning silver in the 10m synchronized platform event. It was the best international result for the partnership that was created in May 2005.

Benfeito and Filion had been sitting in third place heading into the final round of dives, but were able to surpass the Malaysian team to take second place by just 0.27 of a point. The duo had previously won world championship bronze in 2005, just a couple of months after first teaming up. They finished fourth at both the 2007 and 2009 World Championships before dropping to seventh in 2011.

This is the second straight year in which Benfeito and Filion have reached the podium in the season’s biggest international competition, coming after their Olympic bronze medal at London 2012.
