November 27, 1956: Canada wins two rowing medals in one hour at the Games of the XVI Olympiad in Melbourne. First, the crew of Archie MacKinnon, Lorne Loomer, Walter D’Hondt and Donald Arnold capture Canada’s only Olympic gold in the men’s coxless four, winning by five boat lengths. That was followed by silver in the men’s eight.
