December 4, 1956: Diver Irene MacDonald wins bronze in the women’s 3m springboard event at the Games of the XVI Olympiad in Melbourne. This is Canada’s first ever Olympic diving medal. Canada would not win another Olympic diving medal until Los Angeles 1984.
