Christine Sinclair hits double century mark

Christine Sinclair hits double century mark

By Asif Hossain

Canada women’s soccer superstar Christine Sinclair has enjoyed a big couple of days. On Thursday, she played her 200th match for Canada in Brazil at the Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino, where she made hitting the double century mark memorable with a goal in a 2-0 win over Scotland.

On Friday, it was announced that Christine Sinclair tops the fan vote for #impact10 as espnW’s favourite athlete of 2013. Incredibly, she didn’t make the official espnW Impact 10 list (we suspect her passport may have had something to do with that). She will always be revered for leading Canada to a women’s soccer bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games, including a semifinal hat-trick against the U.S. along the way in a hotly contested match with interesting officiating, that the Americans eventually won.

Whether she is officially recognized by espnW or not, fans have had their say and they put Sinclair at the top of their list. Canadians are grateful that she is making her country proud on and off the pitch, and they can’t be faulted for dreaming of another 200 from the great Sinclair.

UPDATE: Christine Sinclair has also been named the female selection for Canada Soccer’s 2013 Player of the Year.
