Volleyball World League home finale this weekend in Edmonton

Canadian men’s volleyball team will look to close out the current round of home dates in the World League on a strong note this weekend against Australia.

Canada will host the ‘Volleyroos’ over two matches in Edmonton on Friday and Saturday. Currently the Canadians sit second in Pool C with 10 points from six outings. Australia is at the bottom of the group with six points from as many matches.

Belgium leads Pool C with 13 points. Canada had a chance to take the lead over the visiting Belgians in Vancouver last week, however after taking the opening match in straight sets, Belgium bounced back in the second contest to win 3-1.

Australia – host of the Final Round – along with the top team from Pool C move on from the current phase.

Following the home dates in Edmonton, Canada will finish the Intercontinental Round on the road to Finland and Australia.

Belgium hosts Finland this weekend.

Canada versus Australia will take place at Rexall Place at 9 p.m. ET (7 p.m. local) and on Sportsnet One.

Canada finishes sixth in Pan-Am Cup

In women’s volleyball, Canada was second behind eventual 2014 Pan-American Cup champion Dominican Republic in the preliminary round, but stumbled in the quarterfinals versus Puerto Rico before losing to Cuba in the fifth place match. The sixth place finish is an improvement from 2013 when Canada was seventh at the Pan-Am Cup.
