Gough wins World Cup silver in Lillehammer

Three-time Olympian Alex Gough won a World Cup silver medal on Saturday in Lillehammer, Norway.

It’s the third World Cup medal – all silver – for Gough in a season shared between the tour and school.

“I’m so happy,” Gough said. “It would be even better if first and second place had been the other way round. But seriously, it was a great race. Really exciting, and very close.”

Gough edged out Dajana Eitberger of Germany for second with a combined two-run time of 1:35.732 over 1:35.753. Tatiana Ivanova of Russia took the gold medal with 1:35.306. All three finished ahead of fifth-place German Natalie Geisenberger, who had won all six World Cup events this season.

On Sunday, the men’s race and the team relay will take place as competition continues on the 1994 Olympic Winter Games track.
