Wrestling Canada nominates athletes to Pan Am Games team

On Tuesday, Wrestling Canada nominated 15 athletes to Team Canada for Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.

Two-time Olympian Haislan Garcia will compete for Canada in the 66kg division. At London 2012, Garcia finished seventh in freestyle. Other members of the men’s team include Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games champions Korey Jarvis (125kg) and Tamerlan Tagziev (86kg) in freestyle.

The women’s team includes Dorothy Yeats in the 69kg division and Braxton Stone-Papadopoulos at 63kg. Yeats has a silver medal from the 2012 Wrestling World Championships and more recently a Commonwealth gold from Glasgow. The 21-year old said she is “motivated to be a part of Team Canada” and believes TO2015 will give her “a perfect mental and physical preparation for the Olympics (in 2016).” Stone-Papadopoulos has a Commonwealth bronze to her name.

The team was selected after two events, the Canadian Wrestling Championships in March and the Senior Pan Am Championships in Chile in April.
