From the football pitch in Edmonton to the beach in Croatia and parts in between, here’s what some Canadian athletes got up to this weekend internationally:

Soccer

Canada defeated China 1-0 on home turf during the Fifa World Cup opener in Edmonton on Saturday (See: Six great photos from Canada v. China). Christine Sinclair sent a low, hard shot past Wang Fei’s of China to secure a 1-0 win in what looked like a scoreless match. The team will take on New Zealand on Thursday in their second game of the tournament.

Swimming

Canada won its first medal in the Mare Nostrum swimming circuit thanks to Audrey Lacroix. The Olympian took gold in the women’s 200-metre butterfly this weekend in France with a time of 2:07.63. Lacroix will be competing for Canada at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.

Volleyball

Both the men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams brought home silver medals at the Porec Major, a FIVB World Tour event in Croatia.

The national men’s teams took four of six points from Argentina – the world’s sixth ranked team – during the World League leg in Halifax. Canada earned three points after winning straight sets (25-22, 27-25, 25-19) during Friday’s match. On Saturday Canada earned one point after the teams battled through a five set match won by Argentina

Field Hockey

Canada now sits third in pool B of the Men’s FIH World League Semifinal after falling to Argentina 1-2 in Buenos Aires on Saturday. With six points in pool B, Canada will advance to the quarterfinals. Top three teams of this tournament will like qualify for 2016 Olympics Games in Rio.

Trampoline

Canadian duo Rosie MacLennan and Samantha Sendel took the silver in the women’s synchronised event at the first Trampoline World Cup competition of the season in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The pair scored 45.600 only slightly edged out by Russia’s Nadezhda Glebova and Susana Kochesok (46.000).
