Thompson and Del Bosco find World Cup podiums as Canada wins Nations Cup

Marielle Thompson and Chris Del Bosco won silver and bronze respectively at the final ski cross FIS World Cup event in Arosa, Switzerland on Friday.

Olympic champion Thompson, finished second to win the nation’s first medal in Switzerland. The Canadian who won gold in AustriaSwedenAlberta and Italy, earned her sixth medal of the season, after she finished second between winner Anna Holmlund from Sweden and France’s Alizee Baron. Kelsey Serwa who won silver at the PyeongChang 2018 test event last weekend, won the small final to finish fifth.

Del Bosco whose strong World Cup season started with two straight wins, made his fifth World Cup medal a bronze. Russia’s Semen Denshchikov claimed the title, while Sweden’s Victor Oehling Norberg edged out the Canadian to finish second. Canadians Kevin Drury and Louis Pierre Helie, finished first and second in the small final. Leman did not compete, after breaking his shoulder last weekend in PyeongChang.

 

The Canadians had an impressive World Cup season, winning a total of 18 ski cross medals. The team’s outstanding performance was rewarded with the coveted Nations Cup, given to the country with the most World Cup points at the end of the season. Thompson led the women’s team finishing second in the overall World Cup standing while Del Bosco and Leman led the men’s finishing second and third overall.

Next up, the Canada Ski Cross will head to Smithers, B.C. to end the season at the 2016 Sport Chek Canadian Championships.
