Binstock and Schachter win beach world tour silver in Cincinnati

A pair of young Brazilians kept Canada off the top step of the podium in Cincinnati on Saturday, where Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter came away with silver.

Gustavo (Guto) Carvalhaes and Saymon Barbosa – both only 22 – won their first FIVB beach world tour title, beating Canada 22-20, 21-8. For Binstock and Schachter, it was their fourth career podium as a pair, and first in the tour since winning silver at the Porec Major last season.

Binstock and Schachter’s path to the final also had to go through three Canadian teams, including tournament no. 3 seed Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk, one of the pairs ahead of them in the Olympic qualifying list, which Saturday’s silver-winning side is chasing.
