Canada set to play for Olympic bronze in rugby sevens

Canada’s first Olympic rugby sevens team will play for bronze, after falling to Australia 17-5 in Monday’s semifinal.

The Canadians faced one the world’s top rugby sevens nations in its semifinal match. Despite a strong start, Australia was the first to score thanks to Emilee Cherry. Australia carried the momentum of their first try throughout first to end with a 15-0 lead over the Canadians.

Shaking off their slow start, Canada when into the second ready to battle. Even though their opponents added another try, the Canadians finished strong with Charity Williams scoring the game’s final try.

With a Rio 2016 medal still on the table, all eyes will be on the pitch at Deodoro’s Olympic stadium this evening.
