William Hallett was one eight non-officer members voted to the COC’s board of directors in March 2009. A dedicated volunteer to sport in Canada, he has been a member of the COC for more than 10 years. The current chairman of the COC Audit Committee, Hallett is also a member of the Finance Committee.
He is well-entrenched in the sport of triathlon in Canada. Once a member of the national triathlon team, Hallett was president of Triathlon Canada, in a voluntary capacity, from 1996 to 2005. Athletically, he has competed in more than 150 triathlon races.
Hallett is an important figure within Sport BC, an organization that advocates for amateur sport in British Columbia. This provincial federation for sport, which represents more than 80 member organizations, helps promote the power of sport on individuals and communities. Hallett is senior vice-president and chief operation officer (COO) for Sport BC, which he joined in 2003. As COO, Hallett implements policy directives from the board and executive committee and manages finances – including the distribution of funds to sport bodies in B.C. During his time with Sport BC, he also created the national structure for KidSport Canada, which provides financial support for children in order for them to play organized sport.
Hallett is the COC’s representative to the board of directors of the 2010 Games Operating Trust Society. He has also served as an expert witness to the House of Commons Committee on Sport (Mills Report). Hallett is a three-time chair of the Audit Committee for the International Triathlon Union. He is the current treasurer for Triathlon Canada, of SBC Insurance Agencies Ltd., a director for All Sport Insurance Marketing Ltd and past treasurer of Triathlon Canada as well as The Canadian Council of Provincial and Territorial Sport Federations.
