Canadians Celebrate Day 4 Bronze Medal StreakAugust 2, 2012
Team Canada’s Day 4 bronze medal streak was celebrated at Canada Olympic House on the fifth day of the Games.
Valois-Fortier’s parents Stéphane Fortier and Nathalie Valois were there to support their son.
“After I won, I went up to my dad because I knew he probably wanted to talk to me. He knows how much I sacrificed and I know how much he sacrificed for me. He said ‘Tony, you did it’,” said Valois-Fortier.
“We are very happy for Antoine. We watched him accomplish his dream,” said Antoine Valois-Fortier’s father Stéphane Fortier.
Christine Girard’s parents Gaëtan Girard and Aline Gaudet were so proud of their daughter for being the first Canadian female to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting.
“Christine worked very hard to be here. It’s a pleasure to be able to celebrate with Antoine’s parents, who have gone through a similar journey as we have,” said Girard’s mother Aline Gaudet.
“We’re usually behind the scenes so we feel very honoured to be treated as such an important part of this event at Canada Olympic House,” said Christine Girard’s father Gaëtan Girard.
“Everyone wants to leave their mark in history somehow so I think I’ve left mine. It was such an important moment in my life and I was so happy to be able to share it with my coach, husband, and parents,” said Christine Girard.
