Podium Streak Hits Double DigitsJanuary 11, 2013
Vancouver 2010 Olympic gold medallist Kaillie Humphries has reached the podium an incredible 10 straight times after winning the Bobsleigh World Cup in Koenigssee, Germany with brakeman Chelsea Valois. The pair posted a combined time of 1 minute, 43.07 seconds and finished ahead of German rival Cathleen Martini who had not lost at the Koenigssee course in three years.
“I felt great warming up. We had two great starts today and I had two decent runs with no major mistakes so everything worked out really well today and it is sweet to win again,” said Humphries following her 10th World Cup victory and 18th podium finish of her career as a pilot.
Humphries’ streak started with then partner Emily Baadsvik back in January of 2012 and has reached the podium with her rookie partner Valois in the last seven World Cup races of the 2012-13 season.
“It is awesome to win anywhere, but extra nice to win in Europe,” added Humphries. “Winning in North America is one thing, but it is a different stage winning in Europe because you are away from home, not as comfortable, and we have so little time to train on these tracks. Winning here tells me I am one of the top pilots in the world.”
