TORONTO – Today, the Canadian Olympic Committee released the following statement following the Canadian Men’s silver medal win at the World Curling Championships in Victoria, BC.
“What an remarkable tournament for our Canadian Men at the World Curling Championships. It was very impressive to see the team come back from a 4th place finish in the preliminary round, and then go through to the final gold medal game. This silver-medal performance now guarantees Canada a spot in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Canada’s Olympic Team will be contending for top sport overall at these Games, and I know that our curling teams will be aiming for the highest spot on the podium as well. On behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee, congratulations to Skip Brad Jacobs and his teammates Ryan Harnden, Eric (E.J.) Harnden and Ryan Fry on this wonderful performance.”
– Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee
“This World Championship silver medal is a tremendous achievement for Brad Jacobs and his Sault-Ste-Marie rink. I knew when they pulled off that impressive 8-6 win in the “sudden death” re-match against Denmark, and in the 10th end, no less – that they would be difficult to beat in the medal round. Well done!
-Steve Podborski, Canadian Olympic Team Chef de Mission, Sochi 2014
While I know that the team would have liked to win a 4th consecutive world title for Canada, this silver medal performance was a great result for Canada. I wish all Canadian curlers the best of luck as they participate in the qualification process towards the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.”
-Jean-Luc Brassard, Canadian Olympic Team Assistant Chef de Mission, Sochi 2014
