TORONTO – Today, the Canadian Olympic Committee released the following statement of congratulations to two-time Olympic gold medallist and Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame member Scott Niedermayer, Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic gold medallist and Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame member Brendan Shanahan and two-time Olympic medallist Geraldine Heaney, on their nomination to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

“I am thrilled to congratulate Scott, Geraldine and Brendan on their well-deserved nominations to the Hockey Hall of Fame. I have known Scott a long time and he is a rare combination of skill, leadership and humility; professional and Olympic Hockey are better because of his contributions. Brendan not only helped take the 2002 Canadian Olympic Team to a gold medal in Salt Lake City, but he has continued strengthening the sport of Hockey in his career off the ice as well. Geraldine is part of the legacy of excellence in women’s Hockey in this country and her gold and silver medals are only a small measure of the overall contribution that she has made. It is leaders such as these three that show the world why hockey is truly Canada’s game and on behalf of the entire Canadian Olympic family, I congratulate them on this momentous lifetime achievement.”
