TORONTO – Today, the Canadian Olympic Committee released the following statement following the Canadian Men’s Volleyball Team’s epic five-set victory on Sunday against the home-team favourites in Oskaka, Japan, securing Canada a place in the World Volleyball League Final for the first time in Canadian Volleyball history.
“This is a huge milestone for our players and for our country, but it is also a lesson about the kind of determination and hard work it takes to successfully compete at the top international level in any sport. This has been a long road for Canada and more work remains to be done. But Sunday’s result proves that Canada has the talent and the determination to be the best. Congratulations to the amazing athletes, coaches and support staff at Volleyball Canada for this historic win and all the best for a successful final.”
– Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee
The finals will take place in Mar Del Plata, Argentina two weeks from now. Canada will play the best teams from Groups A and B once the winners in each group have been established, as well as Argentina which, as the host nation, receives automatic entry into the final.
