Canadian Olympic Committee Names Photi Sotiropoulos Director, Communications and Media Relations

Monday, June 12, 2017 — TORONTO, ON — The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) today named Photi Sotiropoulos Director, Communications and Media Relations. Sotiropoulos will report to Chief Marketing Officer, Derek Kent, effective June 26.

Sotiropoulos, a seasoned communications professional with 15 years of experience, was previously the Director of Communications for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), based out of Montreal.

“Photi’s proven track record in high level regional, national and international communications will be an invaluable asset to us,” said Derek Kent, Chief Marketing Officer of the COC. “His passion for sports and storytelling in new ways, will help guide us as we continue growing our brand as leaders in the Olympic movement.”

Sotiropoulos, a fluently bilingual Montreal native, will provide overall direction, management and a strategic view for all COC communication activities, both internally and externally. He will be a key corporate spokesperson and be responsible for managing its brand message. He will play a key role in driving communications strategies with its stakeholder and partner groups: athletes, National Sports Federation’s (NSF’s), Organizing Committees, Sport Canada, broadcast and business partners. He will manage the COC communications team and be the lead communications representative at Olympic Games. Sotiropoulos will be based at the COC’s office in Toronto and will also work from the Montreal office to ensure that the national scope of his responsibilities will be fulfilled.

Prior to joining the COC, Sotiropoulos worked as a freelance journalist in Montreal. He was also a Manager at the National Hockey League (NHL) and a consultant at Bombardier Aerospace. Most recently he led the Communications team at the QMJHL where he was responsible for its Global Communications Strategy, crisis management and supervising/executive producer for online and television content.

Sotiropoulos is fluent in English, French and Greek.
