Canadian Olympic Committee unveils the new Canadian Olympic mittens

MONTREAL – Montreal Children’s Hospital patients were treated to a surprise today, as they received the new Canadian Olympic Mittens, delivered by members of the newly announced 2012-2013 Canadian National Bobsleigh Team.

“The nation’s bobsleigh and skeleton athletes have taken great pride in celebrating more than 200 international medals with Canadians throughout the country over the last decade,” said Don Wilson, chief executive officer, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton. “I can’t think of a better way to kick off our pre-Olympic season than by inspiring hundreds of young children to achieve their goals while partnering with the Canadian Olympic Committee in the launch of their truly Canadian red mitten campaign.”

“Congratulations to the outstanding athletes named to the National Bobsleigh Team today,” said Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee. “I know you will represent Canada with pride, competing against the best in the world in this crucial pre-Games season.”

Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton will field a powerful squad for the 2012-13 campaign that will include 20 athletes hopping into three men’s and two women’s sleds on the World Cup.

“As the weather cools down and preparation for Sochi 2014 heats up, the Canadian Olympic Committee is proud to partner with the Hudson’s Bay Company to launch the fourth generation of Olympic Mittens,” Aubut continued. “Purchase of these new mittens will once again let Canadians show their pride and support Canadian athletes and coaches.”

“The Hudson’s Bay Company is proud to once again support Canada’s athletes with our fourth generation Olympic Mittens,” says Alison Coville, SVP Private Brand Design and Development. “The Mittens program is a way for Canadians to extend their national pride and ignite the Olympic spirit.  Proceeds from every mitten sold goes to support our Athletes as they prepare to do their best in Sochi.”

Every purchase of the new special edition Canadian Olympic Mittens, the Hudson’s Bay Company makes a financial contribution to the Canadian Olympic Foundation to help Canadian athletes reach the podium through development, coaching and equipment.
