OTTAWA – Members of the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team were in Ottawa this morning, visiting area schools, as part of the Canadian Olympic Heroes Tour.

“It’s a good opportunity to talk to some kids and inspire them to stay active and get involved. I love seeing the reactions of kids. Go out there, try everything you can and take advantage of the opportunities and find something you love. I’m definitely excited for the parade! It’s a chance for the Paralympic team and the Olympic team to come together. We get to see the support we’ve had first-hand.”
-Rosie MacLennan, 2012 Olympic gold medallist, Trampoline

“It’s great to be here today. We’ve been greeted by a whole gymnasium full of students, all cheering very loudly. That big standing ovation was exciting. It’s always good to talk to the kids and let them know what we went through to get to this stage. I think it’s important for them to have role models to share those things with and know that it is possible to go to the Olympics and to get some medals. Whatever their goal is in life, it’s good to know that they can do it.”
-Mark de Jonge, 2012 Olympic bronze medallist, Canoe-Kayak

“Although myself and the crew won our medal, it is important to share our lessons with Canada’s future leaders, heroes and potential Olympians!”
-Brian Price, 2012 Olympic silver medallist and 2008 Olympic gold medallist, Rowing

“I remember being the same age as these kids here and I met Adam van Koeverden at a signing in Oakville. It was such an honour to meet an Olympian. In my eyes, he was a celebrity and now I’m on the other side. I’m looking at all these kids who are inspired by what I’ve done and it’s just as inspiring to see them be inspired.”
-Tera Van Beilen, 2012 Olympian, Swimming

“When I competed in London, the pride of being Canadian was incredible! If you have big goals, you have to work incredibly hard!”
-Sandra Sassine, 2012 Olympian, Fencing
