Funding full-strength team for Toronto 2015

TORONTO – Every Canadian athlete eligible to compete in the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games will be fully supported, thanks to a record funding injection to National Sport Federations (NSFs), the Canadian Olympic Committee announced today. The one-time $2.6 million boost will be divided between all summer NSFs with sports included in the Pan American Games program.

The Pan Am Games will be held in Toronto from July 10 to 26, 2015.

Flash Quotes

“I think that this announcement today is going to be really good for all of the athletes,” said two-time Pan American Games silver medallist and two-time Olympian archer Crispin Duenas.  “We know that we are going to be going with the full support of the COC and the 2015 TO committee and we can just focus on our Games, bring medals home and keep them at home.”

“This (announcement) is absolutely fantastic for Canadian athletes,” said Olympic and Pan American Games silver medallist in Trampoline Jason Burnett. “This is going to allow us to focus a lot more on our sport (and qualifying) as opposed to the financial strain by having to compete, not only around the nation, but around the world.”

“This announcement means I can imagine myself and my teammates having much better support leading into the Pan Am Games,” said London 2012 modern pentathlete Donna Vakalis. “This translates into benefits for our performances in the future.”
