QUÉBEC – Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut was on hand today in Quebec City to distribute the profits generated from a Gala Dinner held May 22, 2012. This historic event, which featured International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge as keynote guest of honour, garnered the significant sum of $800,000 for high performance athletes.

Beneficiaries of the funds raised by the Québec corporate community include the Fondation Desjardins, the Canadian Olympic Foundation, the Fondation Nordiques, the  Pierre Harvey National Training Centre, Québec’s Council for high performance sport, the Gala Victoris Organization, as well as Cardinal Roy School.

A total of 4,100 tickets were sold for this event held at the Centre de foires of Québec, a facility that was transformed for the occasion. Under the leadership of Honorary Chair George Cope, President and CEO of Bell Canada and BCE Inc., a number of economic and corporate leaders were mobilized to make the unprecedented event a huge success.

The Canadian Olympic Committee’s President, Marcel Aubut, was justifiably pleased with the event, saying: “Not one week goes by without someone stopping me to tell me how proud they were to be at our event!  Everyone is so happy to have contributed to the success of our athletes!”
