Statement: COC Applauds Appointment of Carla Qualtrough as New Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities

 TORONTO — On Wednesday, the Canadian Olympic Committee released the following statement of congratulations, after it was announced that Carla Qualtrough would lead Canadian sport initiatives as the new Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities.

“On behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee, I am thrilled to congratulate two-time Paralympian and three-time Paralympic medallist, Carla Qualtrough on being appointed to the position of Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities. The COC celebrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to sport through the appointment of a dedicated Minister. Minister Qualtrough has been a long-time friend and advocate of Canadian sport and through her strong leadership and background as a high performance athlete, we have full confidence that she will further sport in our country. We look forward to working closely with her to ensure our athletes and coaches, from grassroots to podium, continue to receive the best support and programming. Together, we will ensure that sport and the Olympic Movement in Canada continue to thrive.”
