Two new nominees for Olympic shooting

OTTAWA– Today, the elite membership of the Canadian Olympic Team grew by two more nominees as the Shooting Federation of Canada nominated the two athletes who will represent Canada in the sport of shooting at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Cory Niefer and Dorothy Ludwig are both nominated to be part of the Canadian cohort heading to London just a few short weeks from now.

“For me, shooting has been the laboratory that helps me figure out my life and it has benefitted me in so many ways,” said Cory Niefer. “I never imagined when I started that it would take me all the way to the Olympic Games and it’s such an honour to be included in this incredible team.”

“I think the only person that would be more pleased than me would have been my dad,” said Dorothy Ludwig. “Shooting has always been a family sport for us and this nomination to the Canadian Olympic Team makes it all the more special. I can’t wait to get to London and add the next chapter to the family legend.”

Both Niefer and Ludwig are both first-time nominees to the Canadian Olympic Team but are no strangers to the Olympic journey. While Niefer spent the Beijing 2008 Games as a coach, Ludwig is continuing a family legacy as she follows in her father’s footsteps to the Olympic Games, proudly coached by her sister.

“We’re thrilled to add Cory and Dorothy to the growing list of amazing athletes who will be wearing the Maple Leaf in London this summer,” said Chef de Mission Mark Tewksbury. “I know that this is going to be one of the most amazing experiences of their lives and I’m very proud of both of them.”

“On behalf of the Shooting Federation of Canada, I would like to congratulate first time Olympic nominees Cory Niefer and Dorothy Ludwig on the achievements that earned them quota places in the shooting sports at the London 2012 Olympic Games,” said Asmir Arifovic, President of the Canadian Shooting Federation.”We are proud and excited to follow our dedicated athletes to the final stages of their Olympic voyage.”

“All of our athletes have travelled different Olympic roads to reach their Games and these and our newest nominees have equally compelling stories to share,” said Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee. “Their skill and dedication are a welcome addition to the outstanding Canadians nominated to the Canadian Olympic Team.”

The Canadian Olympic Committee leads the achievement of the Canadian Olympic Team’s podium success and advances Olympic values in Canada.

Independent and predominantly privately funded, the Canadian Olympic Committee delivers resources that Canada’s elite athletes need to perform at their best and give their everything every day.

The backbone of Canada’s Olympic movement, the Canadian Olympic Committee works with National Sport Federations to prepare the Team for the Olympic, Youth Olympic and Pan American Games.

By sharing our athletes’ stories, we inspire all Canadians through the power of sport: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
