Leah Callahan made her Olympic debut at London 2012 having never competed at a senior world championship. Callahan earned her ticket to London by dethroning former world championship medallist Ohenewa Akuffo in the 72kg division at the Canadian trials. Callahan had been aiming to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but instead finished 18th at London 2012.
