Jessica Smith made her Olympic Games debut in 2012 and competed in the 800m event, finishing in 22nd place. Smith qualified for London after finishing third at the 2012 Canadian nationals.

Smith has been improving each year and her third place finish at the 2012 Canadian Championships is a four spot improvement from her seventh place finish in 2011. In 2011, Smith was crowned the NAIA Champion in the 1500m, competing for Simon Fraser University.
