Michael Robertson has wanted to compete for Team Canada since being the national U17 champion in the 200m and 400m. He had that dream come true at the 2011 Pan Am Games where he was a member of the 4x400m relay team. He achieved another career highlight at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where he got to race against 2012 Olympic 400m champion Kirani James when they were placed in the same heat. As a late addition to the 2013 Summer Universiade team, Robertson helped the 4x400m relay squad win silver. Robertson won 400m silver at the 2014 Canadian Championships after winning bronze in 2013.

Family: Parents Peter and Joan Robertson… Younger brother Ryan… Getting into the Sport: Ran cross-country for fun as a kid, however a successful junior year in track led him to start training seriously in grade 12… Outside Interests: Enjoys going to the movies, playing cards, hanging out with friends, going to the cottage, golfing, hunting… Holds a Masters degree in Human Kinetics, specializing in consultation and interventions theories… Odds and Ends: Nicknames: Flash and Big Mike… Gets ready for competition by watching his favourite 400m race of Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner on YouTube… Has a pair of good luck spikes worn only at championships… Collects hats from major competitions, a habit that started at OFSAA… Favourite mottos: “Quitting is not an option” and “impossible is nothing”…
