Silken Laumann

Only months before the 1992 Summer Olympics, for which she was a favourite to win the Gold Medal in women’s single skulls, Silken Laumann suffered a devastating leg injury that required multiple surgeries. Despite missing much-needed training time before the games and not being fully recovered in time for the Games, Silken demonstrated what perseverance in the pursuit of excellence can achieve when she won a Bronze medal in that very competition.
