GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Major Games Franchise Holders (FH) are responsible for the management and coordination of multi-sport Games in Canada and internationally.  All FH share a common goal of providing a positive and enriching experience for their clientele (athletes, coaches, support staff and members of the mission team) in a multi-sport Games environment.

The Franchise Holders Working Group (FHWG) which includes the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), Commonwealth Games Canada, U SPORTS and Canada Games Council with the financial support of the Government of Canada is seeking a Coordinator, Major Games Integration, responsible for assisting with  the management and coordination of Health Services and other Major Games Integration projects (e.g. Security, cargo, IT, Travel, Nutrition, Clothing and Mission Team) on behalf of the FH and in providing Health Services preparation and operational assistance for Major Games:

  • Olympic Games (Winter & Summer)
  • PanAmerican Games
  • Commonwealth Games
  • Canada Games (Winter & Summer)
  • Paralympic Games (Winter & Summer)
  • ParaPanAmerican Games
  • Universiade (Winter & Summer)
  • Games of La Francophonie

This position reports to the General Manager, Major Games Integration (GM) and will be located in the Montreal office of the COC. This full-time position will initially be filled as a short term contract until March 31, 2020, with the potential to transition to a full time permanent role starting April 1, 2020.

Note: For administrative efficiencies, the Canadian Olympic Committee will handle the application process on behalf of the FHWG.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIORITIES

General

  • Coordinate the management of the FHWG
  • Coordinate the budget and proposals to Sport Canada
  • Participate in FHWG meetings as required
  • Participate in Games Mission Team meetings as required by FH
  • Assist with Major Games Integration projects

Health Services

  • Coordinate the logistics for Health Services Team (HST) members as required by the GM (i.e. accreditation, liability insurance, medical registration, travel, rate card)
  • Coordinate, send and collect HST nominations
  • Assist with drafting and sharing medical information
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system: collect list of users, upload to the users, administer the site and give support to users
  • Assist with the coordination of athlete’s antidoping requirements with FH, National Sport Organizations and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (i.e. e-learning, medication reviews, whereabouts,  Therapeutic Use Exemptions, etc.)
  • Liaise with Chief Medical Officers, Chief Doctors, Chief Therapists and HST on requirements for their Games
  • Coordinate and support the GM through required functions and activities of Orientation Seminars
  • Act as Clinic Manager on site during some Games (as determined by the GM and FH)
  • Work with the GM on a regular basis in coordinating the delivery of Medical Missions at Major Games
  • Manage medical inventory: maintain, update and medical equipment procurement
  • Ensure equipment is stored in a safe and secure environment
  • Liaise & coordinate cargo preparations with FH and customs broker (reports, manifest, insurance)
  • Identify new sources, suppliers and donations
  • Coordinate and participate in post-Games debriefs when required

Education and Experience

  • College or University Degree in sport, science and/or paramedical related field preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in a sport administration function
  • Experience in sport, sport science or sport medicine along with knowledge of the Canadian sport system and Multi-Sport Games Organizing Committees

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong administrative, organizational, attention to detail, communications and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize in a high-volume environment
  • Self-starter, motivated, takes initiative and ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with timely or sensitive issues
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong project management skills
  • Follows through on all tasks

  • Willing to travel outside Canada
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
