DAY 11 QUOTES OF THE DAY:

Katherine WRIGHT (Women’s Field Hockey) on defeating the United States to make Canada’s first Pan Am Games women’s hockey final since 1991:

“We knew it was going to be a battle out there today. We were really wanting to prove ourselves. We hadn’t been in the finals for years. We wanted to change history today and we came here and did just that. We were really focused on the way we moved the ball. We really wanted to put them under pressure and that’s exactly what we did today.”

Katherine WRIGHT (Women’s Field Hockey) on how the focus turns to the final against Argentina, to whom Canada lost 3-0 in Pool WA play:

“We are lucky to have another crack at Argentina and we think we can really compete against them. We are going to bring that Canadian grit, that Canadian passion. Coming into the final we are really excited to play against them again. We’re really going to push them.”

Faith KNELSON (Bronze Medalist: Swimming – Women’s 100m Breaststroke) on winning her first Pan Am Games medal:

“Honestly, I’m really happy with it. The time, honestly it was whatever, I kind of just wanted to go and have fun. I was telling everyone in the pit before I’m just going to go swim. To see Alyson and Danica on the podium before me while I was sitting in the ready room just made me go out and get after it in the first 50 and I knew if I went out fast that I could maybe come home fast. I laid it all out there and left it all in Lima, that was the plan.”

Danica LUDLOW (Silver Medalist: Women’s 400m Freestyle) on her silver medal:

“I’m really happy. It’s my only individual race of the meet, so starting off with a bang. We were the first race so I wanted to get the ball rolling for Canada this week.”

Alyson ACKMAN (Bronze Medalist: Women’s 400m Freestyle) on winning bronze and standing on the podium with fellow Canadian Danica LUDLOW:

“I’ve been picturing it all day and I was trying not to get too excited and jinx it. But I was so excited. I kind of just wished one of us was in the middle [of the podium] so we could hug each other. So I’m super excited and hope that we can do the same thing in the relay in like two hours.”

Rachel CLIFF (Bronze Medalist: Athletics – Women’s 10,000 m) on taking bronze:

“It’s my first time at the Pan American Games and to get on the podium is really special. I went hard from the gun and I feel like I really earned this one, so I’m pretty proud of it.”

Rachel CLIFF (Bronze Medalist: Athletics – Women’s 10,000 m) on her transition from marathon running to the track:

“I’m the Canadian record holder in the marathon. I set that in March earlier this year and after doing it, I really wanted to have a fun track season and get a chance to compete at Games like these.”

Natasha WODAK (Gold Medalist: Athletics – Women’s 10,000 m / New Pan Am record: 31:55.17) on what her gold medal means to her:

“This one is definitely the most special. I have never won a medal in a Games event so I just felt really good. My parents were here and I just went and saw them and it was just really special, you know, being 37 and having been doing this for so long, it’s really good. Also, it’s really good points going into the Olympics so I’m hoping my ranking will stay nice and high”
