Olympic kayaker Mark de Jonge named Air Canada Athlete of the Year

Voted by fans online, double world champion sprint kayaker Mark de Jonge has been named Air Canada Athlete of the Year.

The London 2012 Olympic medallist came out on top against two other 2015 world champions, high jumper Derek Drouin and pole vaulter Shawn Barber.

Over 100,000 fans voted online, choosing between the three elite athletes for a chance to win a pair of tickets to anywhere in North American Air Canada flies.

The previous three winners of Air Canada Athletes of the Year were soccer player Christine Sinclair in 2012, followed by speed skater Charles Hamelin, and moguls skier Alex Bilodeau in 2014.
