Located in the southeastern part of the city, the Copacabana Zone includes world famous beaches and globally recognized landmarks such as Sugarloaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
A temporary stadium seating 12,000 will be built for beach volleyball at the northern end of the four kilometre crescent-shaped Copacabana beach.
At the southern end of Copacabana beach, the calm waters will host open water swimming as well as the swimming portion of triathlon, with the cycling and running legs stretching along the beach. Five thousand temporary seats will be constructed facing the beach.
Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas
Just north of Ipanema beach and south of Corcovado, one of the spectacular backdrops for the 14,000 spectators at the canoe/kayak sprint and rowing venue is the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
Marina da Glória
A temporary 10,000 seat stadium near the city centre will be directly in front of the proposed medal race course for the sailing events.
The courses for road cycling and race walking will be constructed near Sugarloaf Mountain.
