David La Rue
Biography
David La Rue is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026.
La Rue competed at the ISU World Single Distances Championships for the first time in 2025, finishing 16th in both the 1500m and mass start. In 2020 he raced at the ISU World Sprint Championships.
La Rue made his ISU World Cup debut in November 2017. In 2019-20 he won three bronze medals as a member of the team sprint squad. But he suffered a hip injury at the aforementioned World Sprint Championships, which took more than a year to fully recover from.
He returned to the World Cup circuit in February 2023 and competed in an A Division race for the first time in nearly four years to kick off the 2023-24 season.
La Rue won silver in the mass start at the 2025 ISU Four Continents Championships. It was his first individual podium after having helped Canada win team sprint gold in 2023.
Just over a year after he started long track speed skating, La Rue won gold in the mass start at the 2018 ISU World Junior Championships and added a silver in the 1500m. He was just off the podium in fourth place in the 1000m.

Getting into the Sport: Started short track speed skating at age 12 after watching Vancouver 2010… Switched to long track at age 18 after a back injury prevented him from competing in short track… Outside Interests: Enjoys reading about a wide range of subjects (biology, finance, business, history, technologies)… Studied Finance at the Laval University… Would like to pursue a career in business and technologies… Odds and Ends: Brings home a shot glass from his international competitions… Favourite motto: “Limits are an illusion of the mind”…
