Stephen Gogolev
Biography
Stephen Gogolev is set to make his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. He won his first senior national title at the 2026 Canadian Championships after several seasons disrupted by injuries.
Gogolev achieved several career milestones during the 2025-26 season. In September he won his first ISU Challenger Series event, taking gold at Nebelhorn Trophy. In November, he won his first senior ISU Grand Prix medal, taking bronze at Finlandia Trophy. He had started the season with a bronze medal at the Cranberry Cup International in August, his first podium at a Challenger Series event in two years.
Gogolev dealt with a recurring back injury (stress fractures in the lower lumbar spine) starting in 2022, which led to extended time away from the ice and training for several seasons. He withdrew from the 2024 Canadian Championships after the short program. He then had to withdraw from his second Grand Prix assignment in the fall of 2024 as well as the 2025 Canadian Championships.
Gogolev had enjoyed great success at the junior level. He won gold at the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final during the 2018-19 season. He went on to win silver in the senior men’s event at the 2019 Canadian Championships about a month after his 14th birthday and then finished fifth at the 2019 ISU World Junior Championships. He also competed at the junior worlds in 2020 and 2022, finishing fifth at the latter.
He made his senior international debut in the fall of 2021 at the Warsaw Cup, a Challenger Series event. He entered his first senior ISU Grand Prix events in the fall of 2022. After placing fourth at the 2023 Canadian Championships, Gogolev competed at his first senior ISU Championships, the 2023 Four Continents Championships. He won his first senior international medal in the fall of 2023, taking bronze at the Autumn Classic.
As a highly touted prospect, Gogolev competed in his first senior national championships in 2018 when he was just 13. He had won gold in the pre-novice division at the 2015 Canada Winter Games when he was the youngest competitor in the field at only 10 years old. Throughout 2015, videos showed him landing the triple axel and quad salchow. In 2016 he became the novice national champion, followed in 2017 by the junior national title.
