Turski and Howell Prove Dominant

With a score of 89.6, Kaya Turski (Montreal, QC) was crowned the new slopestyle title holder at the 2013 FIS Freestyle World Championships in Voss, Norway. Turski finished exactly four points ahead of the next closest competer – her teammate Dara Howell (Huntsville, ON) who finished with 85.6 points for silver.

“I don’t really know how I pull it off, I just get in this mood where I am saying to myself, ‘You know what, its not the end of the world if this doesn’t work out,’ and somehow that gives me my flow and I just go with it. And, it’s been working — but I sure hope I land some first runs soon, that would be way easier,” said the Montreal native who added that she also drew inspiration from memories of her friend, the late Sarah Burke, who died following a fall in the halfpipe last year, and who was known for coming back from behind to win big competitions.

Turski improves on her silver medal finish from 2011 and Howell finishes with a career-best second place. Also in the top five for Canada was Yuki Tsubota (Pemberton, BC) who finished in fifth place with a total of 70.4 points.

Canada is now tied at the top of the medal standings with the United States with a total of nine podiums, but leads in overall gold with four.
