Athlete of the Week: Clara Hughes

Athlete of the Week: Clara Hughes
Ben Stevenson

By Ben Stevenson

Her name resonates across the Olympic landscape as the most decorated Canadian of all-time. But after Clara Hughes (Winnipeg, MB) officially retired from competitive sports, the six-time Olympic medallist and the only Canadian multi-medallist in Winter and Summer Games wanted to focus her energy into another passion close to her heart.

A big advocate of mental health and the face behind Bell’s ‘Let’s Talk’ campaign, Hughes announced on Thursday, April 25 she will start a national bicycle tour in March 2014 that spans more than 100 days, 12,000 kilometres and across every province and territory in the country. The ride aims to promote and raise awareness for mental health, and for that Hughes is our Canadian Athlete of the Week.
