Canada’s best golfers looking for glory at RBC Canadian Open

Feel free to let us know in the comments below who you think will be the top Canadian.

Canadian golfing veterans David Hearn, Graham DeLaet and, of course, Mike Weir will be leading the charge of Canadians looking to shoot their way to glory at this week’s RBC Canadian Open.

It won’t be easy though, as many of the world’s top golfers will also be in the field.

DeLaet, Hearn and Weir enter the week as the only three Canadians ranked in the top 100 on the tour, but they will have a lot of tough competition playing with them at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. Some of the top ranked players in the world will be on hand (Matt Kuchar is #7 in the world, Jim Furyk is 10th, and Dustin Johnson is 15th), as well as some big-name veterans such as John Daly, Vijay Singh (both of whom are previous Canadian Open champs).

RBC Canadian Open – which falls annually on the week after the British Open – has taken steps to attract several big names. RBC has sponsored many of the top golfers in the world. Team RBC includes Matt Kuchar, Luke Donald, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Hunter Mahan, and Graeme McDowell in addition to Canada’s top golfers (DeLaet, Hearn, Weir, and Stephen Ames).

While Graham DeLaet is currently the top ranked Canadian in the world (he moved down two spots this week to #38), David Hearn is the one who has been in the spotlight recently. Hearn pulled off an impressive showing at the British Open last week, where he managed to make the cut in his first ever appearance at the major. The good result helped him move up the world rankings from 100th to 93rd, and also jumped him up six spots on the 2014 Money List, now sitting at 76th with just over $1 million in earnings.
