Bar raises at COH with another bronzeAugust 11, 2012
Canada Olympic House was alive on Friday as newly decorated Olympic Bronze medalist Derek Drouin celebrated his hard-earned hardware with Canadians.
Marcel Aubut, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee, highlighted that Drouin’s achievement was truly remarkable and that before Drouin’s success on Wednesday, “Canada had not earned a medal in high jump in thirty-six years.”
Drouin’s coach, Joel Skinner, then took the stage and thanked the many people that contributed to Drouin’s successful journey. He also shed light on the fact that Drouin had sustained a “potential career-threatening knee fracture to his takeoff foot.” However, Drouin “accepted the reality of his injury and never looked back.”
After showing an emotional montage video of his bronze medal performance, Drouin said to the crowd: “Wow, I’m so happy I could bring back a medal for our whole country. It feels great to be celebrating with everyone here at Canada House.”
Skinner summed up Druin’s medal performance best.
“Derek is not only an excellent athlete but an equally excellent human being. No one deserved this medal more than him.”
