COC Partners Recognized as Industry Leaders
As another year comes to an end, the December issues of Marketing and strategy magazines have a distinct Olympic flavour.
Their editors recognized the best and brightest in the industry and among the winners are Canadian Olympic Team Premier National Partners Bell and Hudson’s Bay Company, as well as Official Supporter Bombardier. In addition, Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium was recognized in the media category.
Marketing magazine honoured Bell with a Media Innovation Award for the company’s world-class performance campaign, and the creation of the Bell Cowbell application. Bell’s multiplatform approach during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games brought all the action to a record audience worldwide and within Canada.
Hudson’s Bay Company, which outfitted the Canadian Olympic Team (and consequently, Canadians all across the nation) got the nod as 2010 Marketers of the Year from both strategy and Marketing. Hudson’s Bay Company’s new direction gained significant attention from the world, led by the immensely successful Red Mitten campaign that directly funded Canadian athletes.
Bombardier also garnered an innovation award Marketing for its creation of Olympic Torch and support of the cross-country relay that preceded the dramatic lighting of the Olympic Cauldron in Vancouver.
Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium was honoured as Marketing’s 2010 Media Player of the Year. A feature article in the current issue entitled “Gold Mettle” speaks to the Consortium’s revolutionary Olympic coverage. It produced the top-five most-watched programs in Canadian TV history.
Special note: John Furlong, outgoing CEO of VANOC and now chair of Own the Podium, was named 2010 Marketer of the Year by the Canadian Marketing Association.
It’s been a year of fantastic achievements by sponsors and partners of the Canadian Olympic Team, who remains indebted to them for their ongoing support.
