Royal visit from Prince Harry
The Canadian Olympic Team received a Royal welcome to London on Day 6 of the Games when Prince Harry came by Canada Olympic House to meet and congratulate some of our Olympians.
Malcolm Howard, a member of the men’s eight rowing team that won Canada’s first silver medal on Day 5, greeted Prince Harry as he entered the celebration lounge.
“He was totally cool, he’s just another guy. I showed him my medal and we talked a bit about rowing,” said Malcolm.
After chatting with several athletes and their families, including weightlifting bronze medalist Christine Girard and Olympic slalom canoer Michael Tayler, Prince Harry sat down to watch the women’s eight rowing finals with Howard, his teammate Jeremiah Brown, and Brown’s son Ethan, 7.
As the room erupted in cheers as Canada won its second silver medal, Prince Harry joined in the celebrations, clapping and congratulating COC President Marcel Aubut.
When asked what it was like to meet Prince Harry, Olympian Michael Tayler said: “It was absolutely incredible. He’s such a nice guy, he really wanted to know about my Olympic experience in London and he was genuinely happy when I told him that it has been amazing for me.”
