Maple Leaf Moments: Vancouver Domination

Vancouver domination: On the 15th day of competition at Vancouver 2010 Canada won four medals, highlighted by a pair of gold medals in a span of 10 minutes.  First, the long track Speed Skating trio of Denny Morrison (Fort St. John, BC), Lucas Makowsky (Regina, SK) and Mathieu Giroux (Pointe-aux-Trembles, QC) were victorious in the men’s team pursuit. That was followed by snowboarder Jasey-Jay Anderson (Mont-Tremblant, QC) coming from behind to win the men’s parallel giant slalom. At Sochi 2014 this day will include multiple medal chances for Canada with the finals in both the men’s and women’s team pursuit as well as the newly added parallel slalom Snowboard event in which Anderson is expected to compete.

On this day:  Alpine skier Karen Percy (Edmonton, AB) wins bronze on February 22, 1988 in the ladies’ super-G event in Calgary. Just three days earlier she had won bronze in the ladies’ downhill. Percy produced two of the five medals Canada won in Calgary and was given the honour of being the Canadian flagbearer at the Closing Ceremony.
