Let’s get this party started

It’s going to get live and loud in Alberta when the Sochi 2014 Celebration of Excellence hits Banff, Calgary and Edmonton.

Fans will get a chance to send the team-off on January 11, 2014 in Banff at The Canadian Olympic Team Block Party. And they won’t do it alone. CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos will host, with bands The Sheepdogs and The Arkells rocking Banff Avenue.

“Like many Canadians, we’ll be watching our athletes compete in the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, so we’re thrilled to be part of the Banff Block Party next January, said Ewan Currie, Sheepdogs. “We’ll make sure to give them the send-off they deserve.”

After the Canadian Olympic team beats up on the competition in Sochi, they’ll be welcomed back with a parade and the Hall of Fame Gala hosted by the City of Calgary. There will also be a Heroes Tour, made up of school and hospital visits all over Calgary and Edmonton.

Calgary’s Mayor Nenshi addresses the crowd at the 2014 Celebration Excellence announcement in Calgary.

“On behalf of the citizens of Calgary, I am very proud that we will host a celebration of our returning athletes,” said Naheed Nenshi, Mayor of Calgary. “To be awarded the homecoming for Canada’s Olympians is an honour that has special meaning to Calgarians. Together, with our new winter heroes, we’ll have quite a party.”

Yup, it’s a party. Here’s what it looked like last time:
