Swimming Canada announces 25 Metres Matters initiative
Swimming Canada has launched its “25 Metres Matters” campaign aimed at teaching children a lifelong skill that can help save lives.
Canadian legend and Olympic champion swimmer Mark Tewksbury hosted the event where Swimming Canada announced that it is partnering with RBC Insurance in hopes of teaching children how to swim 25 metres.
The campaign expects to reach an estimated 700,000 Canadian children and their families over the next three years through Canada’s Swim Team. Learning to swim can greatly increase the safety of Canadians in and around water.
The first members of Canada’s Swim Team were recognized at the University of Toronto after meeting the 25 metres challenge. On hand to encourage the participants were RBC Olympian Martha McCabe and her national teammate and fellow London 2012 swimmer Brittany MacLean.
