Parrot heads big air World Cup 1-2 Canadian finish in Quebec City

Max Parrot and Tyler Nicholson impressed fans as they stole the top two World Cup podium spots at an FIS big air on Saturday.

Two days after winning the big air title at Fenway Park, Parrot added another World Cup top spot to his account, in front of a home crowd in Quebec City. The Sochi 2014 Olympian who won with 192.25 points, shared the podium with fellow Canadian Tyler Nicholson who finished second with a score of 179.50.

With four Canadians in the final, fans were eager to see one top the podium. After the first run, Parrot and Nicholson led the competition with 94.25 and 89.00 respectively. However, Antoine Truchon was the only Canadian to land his second attempt, scoring a 96.75, while Canada’s other riders fell out of medal contention.

Stakes were high heading into the final run, since each Canadian had at least one failed attempt in a best two-run total score system competition (where riders’ best two out of three runs are counted toward their total score).

Despite the pressure of needing a perfect run, Parrot unleashed an unreal final attempt scoring 98.00 to secure first place. Nicholson was the only other rider to nail his final landing and scored 90.50 to steal second.

Ryan Stassel of the United States’ 175.50, kept Truchon (159.25) off the podium and in fourth place. Canada’s Max Eberhardt was unable to stick his landings in the final and finished eighth.
