To date, Great to Gold has positioned 164 Team Canada athletes for Olympic podium success.
Heading into the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, $670,000 has been granted to 57 athletes and 3 teams.

“Great to Gold” is a program that delivers on its name by directly supporting Team Canada athletes from different sports and disciplines who are poised for the podium, but need a financial boost to help them reach their potential and inspire us all.
Great to Gold selection process:
Own the Podium is an organization that prioritizes and determines investment strategies for National Sport Organizations in an effort to deliver more Olympic and Paralympic medals for Canada. The Canadian Olympic Foundation and Canadian Olympic Committee work closely with Own the Podium to identify Team Canada athletes that need a financial boost to ensure they reach their Olympic podium potential.
Great to Gold criteria:
- Highly ranked internationally in their sport and discipline, weight category, etc.
- Recent success at international competitions.
- Preference to sports, disciplines and/or athletes that may have greater need.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games…
Athletes backed by Great to Gold delivered more than one third of Canada’s total medals, proving that targeted support can make an outsized impact.
- Of Canada’s 27 medals won at Paris 2024, 15 were earned by Great to Gold recipients
- The COF granted $682,000 in Great to Gold bursaries to 78 athletes for Paris 2024
